A few weeks ago, a customer was doing some clean up work in her garage, and as she bent down to sweep near her furnace, she smelled gas. A gas leak – no matter how small — can be a major danger in and around your home. The smell wasn’t very strong, but she was concerned. She called the Ricotta Heating & Air emergency line because the Ricotta sticker was posted on her furnace. She felt a little silly. It was the middle of August, after all, and the furnace wasn’t even in use. She wondered if the emergency call was even neccessary.
The operator at Ricotta reassured her that the call was important, and she was right to take care of this immediately. You should consider it an emergency situation when you smell natural gas in your home or business and cannot immediately identify the source. No matter how “small” the smell. No matter what time of year.
Ricotta Heating & Air came out that same day to check for the source of the gas leak and repaired it on the spot. In this case, something had bumped the gas connection leading to the furnace just enough to break the seal.
Her system was restored to safe working order by replacing the furnace valve before heating season – and before the problem got any worse.
